Use lights designed for outdoor conditions
Check the manufacturer instructions and use equipment suitable for outdoor exposure. Use certified electrical products, protect connections from weather as directed and avoid overloaded power boards or extension leads. Damaged wires and plugs should not be used.
Keep access routes clear
Plan where cables, decorations and moving parts will sit before putting anything up. Keep paths and driveways free of obstacles, and make sure visitors can admire your display without stepping into the road or onto electrical wiring.
Think about neighbours
Set reasonable switch-off times, avoid directing bright lights into bedrooms and control sound levels if your lights synchronise to music. If your street gets busy, consider how drivers can park legally and leave safely.
Submit accurate details
If you add a display to Christmas Map Australia, provide dates, hours and a clear description of what visitors should expect. Only publish an address you own or have permission to list. Our map requires email confirmation and administrator approval before a new display goes live.
Stay flexible with the weather
Summer thunderstorms and rain can affect outdoor displays. Follow product guidance and turn equipment off where appropriate. Update your plans if conditions make viewing unsafe.
